Highlights
- 85th Annual Ag Field Day, April 26, 2003: Despite, or perhaps
because of the rain and muddy fields outside, the first floor
of the marine sciences building was crowded with visitors for
more than four hours on Saturday. Thanks to those who supplied
posters for the lobby and who were there to answer questions about
the demonstrations, posters, and aquaria (John Quinlan, Yonghua
Chen, Naomi Fleming, Georgina Spyres, and Judy Grassle). Very
special thanks go to Shannon Newby and her touch tank of marine
invertebrates and seaweeds, Grant Law and his colorful fish print
studio, and Bob Chant with his ever-popular salt wedge estuary
model. These three were there throughout the day, and may be responsible
for kindling an interest in marine science in the coming generation
of New Jersey students.
- Oscar Schofield was appointed to serve as an Associate Editor
for the Journal of Geophysical Research (Oceans).
- Paul Falkowski was named to the American Academy of Arts and
Sciences. This is a great tribute to his long term leadership
in oceanography.
