11:628:303 TOPICS: Ocean Science Inquiry - 3 Credits

This course has a dual function. First, it teaches undergraduates intellectual skills necessary for science: problem solving, hypothesis generation, critical review of primary literature, and scientific writing. The class consists of lectures, discussions, and reading and writing assignments based on research into marine environments. Second, it creates an opportunity for a team of graduate students to practice and improve their teaching. A teaching workshop before the class begins and a faculty mentor provide guidance on teaching strategies, and continuing evaluation from fellow graduate student teachers and undergraduate students in the class will provide suggestions for improvement.
