HyCODE Times FAQ

So you want to be included? Here's how...

What is the HyCODE Times?

HyCODE Times is designed to be a resource for scientists and informative to the general public. In it, we hope to explain the ongoing research occurring just off the coast of New Jersey.

This web site will detail the research of those institutions and scientists involved with the HyCODE and COMOP programs during July and August, 2001. Over 200 scientists from across the nation have come to the Rutgers University Marine Field Station, located just outside of Tuckerton, NJ to take part in this exciting project. During the summer, data from over a dozen boats, 5 satellites, 4 planes, several underwater gliders, 8 buoys and two nodes will be used by scientists to gather information to study the ocean. The COOLroom acts as the mission control for all of the operations.

Scientists will use the site to interact with each other and share their research plans and accomplishments. The general public can follow along with the researchers as they plan, journey out and discover all those things that help uncover the mysteries of the Earth's mighty ocean.

Who can be included?

All researchers, programmers, staff and weirdoes at large involved with the HyCODE and COMOP projects, or are affiliated with the goals of the projects, may have their stories told.

How can we be included?

The HyCODE Times editorial staff is looking to include all events going on around the COOLroom this summer and beyond. Your research group is welcome to submit articles and information to Sage Lichtenwalner, Hy-Editor, at any time. The more complete your information, the sooner we will be able to post it live. Here are some guidelines for submitting.

Short "News" Blurbs - News headlines of about 3-5 sentences describing major accomplishments of the day. Such as "PHILLS Arrived today" or "Webb Glider successfully deployed."
Full Stories - A self contained story about a research group, voyage, life on a ship, or the goals of a certain project. The story should be about 250-1000 words, and should include photos. If you need photos to be taken for you, contact Sage Lichtenwalner to schedule a photo-shoot.
Pictures - Pictures should be less than 800x600 unless mucho detail is required. We can add pictures to our general gallery, as well as to any relevant stories or blurbs.
Mission Plans - Oscar and Scott will be doing their best to keep everyone posted of all the exciting event scheduled to take place. Be sure to inform them of any plans you have that everyone should know about.
Scotscar Logs - Much like the News Blurbs, Oscar and Scott will be writing their own list of COOLroom accomplishments.

How can we Submit?

Send any stories, news blurbs, photos, etc. to Sage (sage@arctic.rutgers.edu). If your computer is connected to the PC network, you may also place your submissions in the "Transfers" directory on "Schuylkill."

We will try to update the main page of the HyCODE Times at least twice each week, after the Sunday and Wednesday briefings. If you wish your news to be posted stories that require immediate publication must be submitted before July 26th. All articles received between July 26 and August 3 will be posted after August 4th.
